MONTREAL, March 16, 2012 – The Montréal Science Centre set a new record during our “Spring out your crazy side” March Break event. Together, the techno-extreme Technofollies event, the Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibition and The Last Reef 3D film at the IMAX®TELUS Theatre attracted over 50,576 visitors, up by more than 83% from the 27,598 in 2011 - a new record! On Friday, March 9 alone, 7,280 visitors turned out to enjoy the family activities.
During the 9 days of March Break, upwards of 31,000 people took in the Technofollies event, for ages 8 to 14, giving them a chance to demystify digital technology, the Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibition, starring the world’s most advanced animatronic dinosaur replicas, and our permanent exhibitions at the Science Centre. In addition, over 19,500 people saw the new film, The Last Reef 3D, at the IMAX®TELUS Theatre.
Claude Benoit, President and CEO of the Old Port of Montréal Corporation and also the interim Vice-President of Programming for the Science Centre, congratulated all the teams that contributed to this unprecedented success. “Once again, we showed that Montréal’s Old Port is a world-class attraction, thanks to its focus on families and the way it makes science and technology accessible to everyone,” she said. Dinosaurs Unearthed at The Putnam Museum is a dynamic experiential dinosaur exhibition that allows guests to participate in the larger-than-life world of dinosaurs. Set in an awe-inspiring naturalistic setting with gorgeous backdrops and landscaped scenes, the exhibition features 14 animatronics, 2 full-size skeletons and 22 fossils.
